Tyrone O’Neill signs for the Railwaymen
Shildon AFC is delighted to announce the signing of striker Tyrone O’Neill from Stockton Town FC on a two year contract (subject to FA/League approval).
Tyrone started his career with Middlesbrough’s Academy, signing professional terms in 2018, he then spent time on loan at national league clubs Hartlepool United and Darlington. At the start of the 2021/22 season he signed for Scunthorpe United making 4 appearances before returning to Darlington on loan. Tyrone then joined Stockton Town in August 2022.
Shildon AFC Manager Chris Hughes said: “We are delighted to bring Tyrone to the club. He is someone I have known from working at Middlesbrough Academy and have always followed his career. He is hungry and wants to do well. Tyrone will help us as a team but it is important to recognise that the team will also be able to help him achieve his goals too”.

Stockton Town 1-3 Shildon: Match Report
Shildon saw off a tough Stockton Town side in the Buildbase FA Vase as they progressed to the fourth round at the Map Group UK Stadium.
Dean Thexton gave the Railwaymen the lead in the 13th minute before Kurt Matthews doubled his sides lead on the stroke of half time.
Nathan Mulligan pulled a goal back for Stockton in the 73rd minute, before Thexton sealed the win for Shildon five minutes from time.
Shildon reached the third round after an away win against Hallam, whilst Stockton defeated Charnock Richard at home.
The home side had the first chance of the game, when Kevin Hayes cut inside past Dom Curl however his effort was saved by Shaun Newbrook.
Thexton gave his side the lead just two minutes later, when his brilliant strike dipped over keeper Ross Coombe into the net.
Shildon almost went two up in the 33rd minute, when Thexton ran onto Daniel Moore’s long ball, before seeing his half-volley saved by Coombe.
The away side doubled their lead on the stroke of half time, as captain Chay Liddle played through Matthews who slotted home beyond Coombe.
Stockton pushed forward in the second half – Hayes and Shane Henry going close – however the Shildon back line stood strong and resilient.
The hosts did find a way back into the game through Mulligan, as he brought down a cross before firing low past Newbrook to half the deficit.
Shildon’s two goal advantage was restored in the 85th minute, when Michael Sweet laid the ball off to Thexton, who excellently placed the ball into the top corner to seal the win.
Stockton bow out of the competition at the third round, whilst Shildon continue their quest to Wembley.

Stockton Town 3-0 Shildon: Match Report
Shildon were beaten in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Stockton Town at the Map Group UK Stadium.
Michael Roberts gave Stockton the lead in the 12th minute after a mistake from Shildon keeper Shaun Newbrook, before Nathan Mulligan doubled his sides advantage in the 26th minute.
Jonathan Franks sealed the win for Stockton in the last minute as he got on the end of Kevin Hayes’ cross.
Stockton will face Billingham Town away in the FA Cup Preliminary Round, whilst Shildon exit the competition at the first hurdle.
The home side took the lead when Newbrook lost control of the ball due to pressure from Mulligan, leaving Roberts to slot the ball home into the bottom corner.
Newbrook redeemed himself three minutes later, as he brilliantly tipped Jordan Robinson’s effort from the edge of the box over the bar.
Newbrook produced a great save four minutes later, when Franks’ whipped cross was met by the head of Mulligan, who was denied at point blank range.
The hosts increased their lead when Lewis King picked out Mulligan on the edge of the box, before his low strike evaded Newbrook and rolled off the post and in.
Shildon went close to pulling a goal back in the 74th minute, when Joe Posthill’s cross was met by Michael Sweet, however his header was turned away by Lee Roberts.
Stockton nearly added a third in the 80th minute, as Franks’ cross was met by Max Craggs, however he could only flick the ball wide of the post.
The home side sealed the win in the 90th minute, when Frank’s nodded home Hayes’ cross was close range to send his side through into the next round of the FA Cup.

ENL1 RESULT | Stockton Town 1 Shildon 3
Billy Greulich-Smith scored with a header in the final minute of the first half to give Shildon a half time lead.
Aidan Heywood then doubled the lead 3 minutes after the restart with a low shot to the goalkeepers right. Heywood then scored the goal of the game half way through the second half with a shot from outside the box that flew into the top corner.
With 15 mins left Kevin Hayes scored to reduce the deficit with another shot from outside the box but that was how the game ended with 3-1 victory to Shildon.

Dale is an old school centre half, big and strong with a great never say die attitude. He is a no nonsense player, good in the air and loves a tackle. He has a lot of experience in the Northern League having played for Billingham Synthonia, Norton & Stockton Ancients and Marske United.
