Shildon fundraiser overwhelmed with community generosity

SHILDON AFC’s kit lady Susan Charlton will be holding a 60’s themed celebration event in memory of her late partner on Saturday 9 February at Elm Road Club, Shildon.

Partygoers can expect a music filled evening reliving the 60’s and 70’s performed by the ‘Travellin Band’.  There will be a raffle, tombola and auction with extensive prizes including a signed football shirt from Middlesbrough, family voucher for one year to Alnwick Castle, entry to Beamish Hall, golf days at Bishop Auckland, Hallgarth, and Ramside Hall, weekend tickets for Croft racing circuit, spa vouchers at various locations and afternoon tea vouchers for local hotel Redworth Hall, Hardwick Hall and Seaham Hall, to name but a few.

The annual event, hosted by ex Wimbledon player Carlton Fairweather, raises money for Diabetes UK, Prosthetic Limb Centre, James Cook Hospital and the football club.  It has run annually for six years since the sad passing of Miss Charlton’s partner, John Hay who was supporting his team Shildon AFC in a Durham Challenge Cup tie against Seaham Red Star when he collapsed in January 2013.

Miss Charlton said  : “ I cannot thank everyone enough for their huge generosity. Not only our football community but the wider community have really come together to support the event.  I am so overwhelmed with the amount of prizes donated, I am sure we will beat our fundraising total from last year ”

Tickets are £6 and are available from Sue Charlton on 07443 042862 and Elm Road club on 01388 772650.  They are also available on the door on the night.

Shildon AFC receive donation from Making A Difference Locally

Many thanks to Joan Raw from Nisa Local who nominated Shildon AFC to receive a donation from Making a difference locally.

Making a Difference Locally is a charity launched to help independently run local stores to add value to their communities.

The charity helps the stores achieve this by allowing them to nominate charities or good causes that are local to them to receive a specific donation from us. Donations may be to local sports teams, hospices or one of the many charities operating in the UK.

We thank everyone involved in making the decision to donate £350 to the Football Club and it is very much appreciated.

Trailblazer Shildon AFC support young players

SHILDON AFC have committed to offering young players with emerging talent the opportunity to play in the Ebac Northern League in their first team.

David Dent, chairman of Shildon AFC set out plans to grow the club into the wider community in October 2018 with the appointment of a new sporting director Martin Gray.

Dent said “with the new structure of the club in place Martin is now in a position to identify any young players who have reached a point in their football career where they would benefit from, and be put forward to play with the first team”

There are ten eager young players currently associated with the first team. Aaron Duell, Dominic Curl, Aidan Heywood, Brad Hird and Dane Eltringham who are all under 21 years old and Ben Reay, Stevie Johnson, Mason Hurworth, Oscar Eckley-Aldsworth and Liam Waters who are 16 years old.  The four youngest players have all come through a training programme with the Martin Gray Football Academy.

Daniel Moore, Shildon AFC manager, took the decision to play Mason Hurworth and Stevie Johnson at the Durham Challenge Cup quarter final which they won with an impressive 6-1 victory against Consett AFC.

Moore said : “Both myself and assistant manager Mark Hudson  have worked hard with these young lads in all aspects of the game.  The aim is to give them a platform to work hard, thrive and achieve their goals. I want to add to the professionalism of the current senior members of the squad such as Matty Robson and Dale Mulligan.  They have been brilliant when working with the young players and being able to be around such characters will only develop them even more”

Shildon Manager Celebrates Anniversary at Community Football Club

SHILDON AFC manager Daniel Moore will celebrate two years in charge at the Ebac Northern League club this month.

Moore signed a three year contract with the club back in January 2017 and took the club to forth position in the Northern League in his first season and third in his second.  He also took Shildon to the FA cup forth qualifying round last season and won the Cleator Cup.

Aged 34, Moore is a young, driven and increasingly experienced manager who believes in giving the clubs emerging talent an opportunity on the pitch, whilst maintaining a strong performing squad.   An ethos which has seen the club climb to sixth position in the league table with 12 games to go.

The anniversary falls within weeks of reaching 500 games played for the club and 100 games managed.

Moore said : “I am proud of how far the team has come in the past two years and more so in the last six months.  There have been changes both on the pitch and off the pitch which ultimately improve individual and team performance.  I am already taking steps to secure a solid start to the next season and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead”

David Dent, chairman of Shildon AFC added : “ Daniel has made a great start to his managerial career and we have now put a structure in place where he can only continue to improve. Daniel is aware of the level of investment that is going into the Club as we seek to achieve our ambitions on and off the pitch and he has a major part to play in realising those objectives. I think now we are starting to see the results of this on the pitch and I’m hopeful that this is just the beginning “
