Trailblazer Shildon AFC support young players

SHILDON AFC have committed to offering young players with emerging talent the opportunity to play in the Ebac Northern League in their first team.

David Dent, chairman of Shildon AFC set out plans to grow the club into the wider community in October 2018 with the appointment of a new sporting director Martin Gray.

Dent said “with the new structure of the club in place Martin is now in a position to identify any young players who have reached a point in their football career where they would benefit from, and be put forward to play with the first team”

There are ten eager young players currently associated with the first team. Aaron Duell, Dominic Curl, Aidan Heywood, Brad Hird and Dane Eltringham who are all under 21 years old and Ben Reay, Stevie Johnson, Mason Hurworth, Oscar Eckley-Aldsworth and Liam Waters who are 16 years old.  The four youngest players have all come through a training programme with the Martin Gray Football Academy.

Daniel Moore, Shildon AFC manager, took the decision to play Mason Hurworth and Stevie Johnson at the Durham Challenge Cup quarter final which they won with an impressive 6-1 victory against Consett AFC.

Moore said : “Both myself and assistant manager Mark Hudson  have worked hard with these young lads in all aspects of the game.  The aim is to give them a platform to work hard, thrive and achieve their goals. I want to add to the professionalism of the current senior members of the squad such as Matty Robson and Dale Mulligan.  They have been brilliant when working with the young players and being able to be around such characters will only develop them even more”

Shildon Manager Celebrates Anniversary at Community Football Club

SHILDON AFC manager Daniel Moore will celebrate two years in charge at the Ebac Northern League club this month.

Moore signed a three year contract with the club back in January 2017 and took the club to forth position in the Northern League in his first season and third in his second.  He also took Shildon to the FA cup forth qualifying round last season and won the Cleator Cup.

Aged 34, Moore is a young, driven and increasingly experienced manager who believes in giving the clubs emerging talent an opportunity on the pitch, whilst maintaining a strong performing squad.   An ethos which has seen the club climb to sixth position in the league table with 12 games to go.

The anniversary falls within weeks of reaching 500 games played for the club and 100 games managed.

Moore said : “I am proud of how far the team has come in the past two years and more so in the last six months.  There have been changes both on the pitch and off the pitch which ultimately improve individual and team performance.  I am already taking steps to secure a solid start to the next season and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead”

David Dent, chairman of Shildon AFC added : “ Daniel has made a great start to his managerial career and we have now put a structure in place where he can only continue to improve. Daniel is aware of the level of investment that is going into the Club as we seek to achieve our ambitions on and off the pitch and he has a major part to play in realising those objectives. I think now we are starting to see the results of this on the pitch and I’m hopeful that this is just the beginning “

Shildon AFC – Chairmans Christmas message

Shildon AFC – Chairmans Christmas message

2018 has been a mixed year for the Club. We’ve made huge strides off the pitch but on the field has been disappointing

Those of you who attended the recent talk in with myself and Martin will have a better idea of what’s happening behind the scenes but the bottom line is we are a Club in transition and that is shown in the results

I put together a budget at the beginning of the season which the Management team agreed would allow us to compete at the top of the League. That hasn’t happened, neither have we had a good Vase run. Believe me there is no one more disappointed than me

We needed to make some radical changes which I’ve done with the introduction of Martin and changes to the Management and playing staff. Martin subsequently introduced a new training regime for the Players and we are now seeing the first signs of our Academy coming through. Dan made changes to the squad and brought in Dane Eltringham, and Oscar Eckley-Aldsworth came on against Newton Aycliffe who’s only 16. Mason Hurworth was on the bench recently and both Ben Reay who plays for our Under 17’s and Steve Johnson, son of Steve Senior who some of you will remember as a former Shildon player, now all train with the first team and have signed first team deals. These players are all 17 and represent the future of the Club. On top of that we are now seeing the development of Aidan Heywood, Brad Hird, Aaron Duell and Dom Curl all of whom are 21 or under

I appreciate that young talented footballers alone will not take the Club forward and that’s why we are delighted to sign a proven NL Centre Half in Dale Mulligan who last May played at Wembley in an FA Vase final. This will allow Dan Moore to concentrate on improving the squad performance and to develop as a Manager. We are looking to make one or two additions during the course of this season but only if they can enhance the squad and contribute towards a team that must challenge at the top next season.

We can’t turn this Club around overnight, it will take time. We have a 5 year plan to take this Club as high as we can and we want all of you and the wider community to come on this journey with us

The remainder of this season is all about improving on and off the pitch. Off the pitch I’ve restructured the Board to attract investors to the Club to help us have the necessary budget to challenge for the League title next season. The Academy is starting to take shape with new players attracted to the Club and I’m really proud of what we are doing for the local community. Believe me myself and Martin are working really hard behind the scenes and we are making progress.

On the pitch Dan Moore has a target to finish in the top 6 which I think is more than achievable with the squad. This, coupled with one or two additions to the team, will give us some momentum as we move into next season

It’s been a hard year for us all but I’m absolutely sure with all of your support we will take this Club to a level that it’s never played at before.

Have a lovely Christmas everyone and here’s to a successful New Year
