Shidon AFC can confirm that David Palmer has agreed a move to Northern Football League Division One side North Shields FC. David joined Shildon from Seaham Red Star in October 2018 and was part of the teams that won the Durham Challenge Cup in 2019, and gained promotion to the Northern Premier League East for the 2021/22 season. We wish David well for the future and thank him for all his efforts at Shildon AFC.
Ray Gowan who spent 14 Seasons at Shildon, including the FA Cup first round game against Notts County, has released a book looking back over his 45 years in non league football as a player and manager.
The book entitled Football Ray’s Way is available to order direct from Ray priced at £10 + Postage & Packing.
Speaking to the website Ray said of the book “I am very pleased with the quality of the printing and the book will be a great addition to any quality bookshelf.
It covers my time as a player in the South and the Northern League and Northern Premier for Gateshead.
I went to SA in 1971 and managed my first team. I returned to the UK in 1976 and managed at Dormans in The Teesside League and then Brandon, Spennymoor, Shildon (14 seasons), Ashington, Esh Winning and finally West Auckland. I returned to SA in 2008 and have lived here ever since.”

Stockton Town 1-3 Shildon: Match Report
Shildon saw off a tough Stockton Town side in the Buildbase FA Vase as they progressed to the fourth round at the Map Group UK Stadium.
Dean Thexton gave the Railwaymen the lead in the 13th minute before Kurt Matthews doubled his sides lead on the stroke of half time.
Nathan Mulligan pulled a goal back for Stockton in the 73rd minute, before Thexton sealed the win for Shildon five minutes from time.
Shildon reached the third round after an away win against Hallam, whilst Stockton defeated Charnock Richard at home.
The home side had the first chance of the game, when Kevin Hayes cut inside past Dom Curl however his effort was saved by Shaun Newbrook.
Thexton gave his side the lead just two minutes later, when his brilliant strike dipped over keeper Ross Coombe into the net.
Shildon almost went two up in the 33rd minute, when Thexton ran onto Daniel Moore’s long ball, before seeing his half-volley saved by Coombe.
The away side doubled their lead on the stroke of half time, as captain Chay Liddle played through Matthews who slotted home beyond Coombe.
Stockton pushed forward in the second half – Hayes and Shane Henry going close – however the Shildon back line stood strong and resilient.
The hosts did find a way back into the game through Mulligan, as he brought down a cross before firing low past Newbrook to half the deficit.
Shildon’s two goal advantage was restored in the 85th minute, when Michael Sweet laid the ball off to Thexton, who excellently placed the ball into the top corner to seal the win.
Stockton bow out of the competition at the third round, whilst Shildon continue their quest to Wembley.
Our next opponents in the FA Vase will be Hallam FC after they won an entertaining game against AFC Blackpool 4-3 yesterday.
Hallam are the World’s Second Oldest Football Club founded in 1860 and play at the World’s Oldest Football Ground, Sandygate.
Sadly the game will be played behind closed does with both areas currently in tier 3 restrictions.
Hallam FC are however looking to stream the game live so hopefully supporters will be able to view online.
The game will take place on Saturday 12th December.
Shildon and Stockton Town played out an entertaining goalless draw at Dean Street in the Ebac Northern League Division One.
The first chance of the game came in the 20th minute, when Kurt Matthews picked out Joe Posthill on the edge of the box, before the winger saw his curling effort saved by Callum Roberts.
Shildon went close again 27 minutes in, when Jack Naylor’s cross deflected back into the path of Matthews, who could only fire his effort over the bar from six yards out.
The away side responded with a chance of their own, as Kevin Hayes picked up the ball on the edge before sending his long range effort just wide of the post.
Michael Sweet almost gave Shildon the lead on the hour Mark, when he brought down Matthews’ cross before seeing his half-volley saved by Roberts.
The home side had a great chance to take the lead in the 66th minute, when Chay Liddle’s ball over the top set Sweet clean through on goal, however his low effort was tipped around the post by Roberts.
Stockton had a great chance to go ahead, when Lewis King drove forward before laying off to Shane Henry, before Shaun Newbrook pulled off a great save to tip Henry’s thunderous effort over the bar.
Shildon had another great chance to score in the 78th minute, when Danny Craggs’ cross was met by Sweet, however he could only send his header over the bar from six yards out.
Shildon drop down to tenth after their, however have a game in hand on most teams above them. Stockton sit in fifth after the draw.

Sunderland RCA 2-3 Shildon: Match Report
Shildon produced a second-half comeback away to Sunderland RCA as they progressed to the next round of the Buildbase FA Vase.
Stephen Callen gave RCA the lead in the 27th minute, before Anthony Callaghan doubled the home sides lead in the 52nd minute.
Chay Liddle, David Palmer and Dean Thexton all scored in the remaining 30 minutes, as the Railwaymen pulled off a comeback.
Neither side had any real chances in the game until the 27th minute, when Callen was left unmarked from a corner before tapping home beyond Shaun Newbrook from six yards out.
Callaghan made it two just after half-time, as he robbed Jack Vaulks of possession on the edge of the Shildon box, before slotting home beyond Newbrook.
Shildon pulled a goal back in the 59th minute, when Joe Posthill drove to the byline before pulling the ball back to Liddle, who smashed the ball home from 15 yards out.
The away side thought they had equalised in the 66th minute, when Posthill’s looping cross was met by the head of Thexton at the back post, however Paul Griffith got down low to turn his effort wide of the post.
The Railwaymen equalised in the 69th minute, when Thexton laid the ball off to Palmer on the edge, before his weak effort was spilled by Griffith into the net.
Shildon were awarded a penalty in the 78th minute when Liddle was brought down in the box under after a rash challenge from Ryan Leonard.
Thexton stepped up to take and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner, sending RCA keeper Griffith the wrong way to complete the comeback.
The away side held on for the win, which sees them go through to the next round of the competition.
