Shildon 5 Seaham Red Star 3, Match Report by Adam Gill

Shildon 5-3 Seaham Red Star: Match Report

Shildon returned to winning ways in the Ebac Northern League as they overcame Seaham Red Star at Dean Street.

Goals from Thomas Bott and Alex White saw the game was level after 20 minutes, before Nathan Greenwood scored in the 23rd minute to give Seaham a half-time lead.

Joe Posthill, Danny Craggs, Jack Vaulks and Dean Thexton gave Shildon a three goal cushion, before Paul Gardiner pulled a goal back with 15 minutes to play.

The Railwaymen held on for the win, which sees them move up to fourth in the league, whilst Seaham sit in 15th.

The away side took the lead in the 17th minute, when Bott was left unmarked from a corner before picking up the loose ball and smashing his volley home beyond Matthew Bateman.

Shildon responded three minutes later, when Posthill’s deflected effort fell into the path of White, who directed his header past Andrew Jennison.

Seaham went ahead soon after, when Greenwood saw his initial header saved by Bateman, leaving him to tap home the rebound from only a few yards out.

Posthill pulled his side level, when he picked up the ball out wide, before driving inside and firing his effort hard and low towards the near post.

Shildon were awarded a penalty on the hour mark, which Craggs stepped up to take and dispatch into the bottom corner.

The hosts extended their lead in the 67th minute when Vaulks got on the end of Craggs’ corner kick to head his side in front.

Shildon scored their fifth of the night when Jack Naylor’s cross found Thexton in the box, who headed home beyond Jennison.

Seaham pulled a goal back two minutes later, when Gardiner found himself unmarked on the edge of the box, before finishing low into the bottom corner.

Shildon face Bishop Auckland at home in their next match, whilst Seaham welcome Newton Aycliffe.

Shildon 2 Chester-le-Street 1, match report by Adam Gill

Shildon 2-1 Chester-le-Street: Match Report

Shildon progressed to the next round of the FA Vase as they came away from Dean Street with a hard fought win against Chester-le-Street.

Danny Craggs gave the home side the lead in the 13th minute before Luke Collins levelled the game just after half time in the 50th minute.

Billy Greulich-Smith sealed the win from the spot in the 75th minute as Shildon after Ben Trotter was brought down in the box.

The Railwaymen took the lead when David Palmer laid the ball off to Craggs on the edge of the box, before his sweet strike nestled into the bottom corner beyond Maximilliano Coombes.

The home side almost doubled their lead in the 25th minute, when Palmer connected with Greulich-Smith’s whipped cross, however his goal bound header was well saved by Coombes.

Greulich-Smith went close a minute later, as he held off challenges from the Chester-le-Street defenders, before sending his long rang strike just wide of the post.

The visitors found themselves level five minutes into the second half, when Collins’ cross-come-shot looped over Shaun Newbrook, leaving the Shildon keeper no chance.

The hosts had a chance to take the lead just three minutes later, when Aidan Heywood found Dean Thexton in space 10 yards out, however the striker could only send his effort over the bar.

Shildon were awarded a penalty 15 minutes from time, when Trotter was brought down in the box under the challenge of Matthew Keogh.

Greulich-Smith stepped up and sent Coombes the wrong way, confidently dispatching the ball into the bottom left hand corner.

Shildon held on for the win, which sees them travel to Division One rivals Sunderland RCA in the next round of the FA Vase.
